The Family Reunion

The family planned a reunion to get to know everyone especially since many moved to other parts of the country, and some overseas.
The planned full family reunion in Durban in December 2021 had to be postponed due to the increase in the Covid cases with the omicron strain.
In the interim the part of the family living in Johannesburg, held a family reunion in November 2021, just before the Covid restrictions kicked in.
The families were graciously hosted by Zaffar & Fatima Wahid at their home and by all accounts was a fabulous get together with scrumptious food whilst rekindling relationships.

Imraan & Fathima Sultan Family

Imraan Sultan the youngest son of Aboobaker and Afeefa Sultan, is married to Fathima Shamoun.
They have 3 children:
  • Mohammed Ibrahim
  • Yusuf
  • Azraa
Mohammed Ibrahim married Sabeha Salie in 2018 and they now have a son Mohammed Mahdi.

Imraan has had a very full life and he can actually write a book on his own (hopefully with enough prompting) to record life life's journey, and I am sure will make an interesting read and motivate many of the next generation, to give everything in life a go.

Sheik Abdulla Raboobee known to be a flamboyant and exquisitely dressed and widely travelled gentleman of his time. His suits were specially tailored at Saville Row in London, and is seen in photos to be in a suit even whilst visiting the Pyramids. He also had a passion for exotic cars in his time.

Tower House Verulam | Raboobee Home

The Tower House in Verulam was also the Raboobee family home. The pictures are taken over the years and the bottom row is an artists impression of the renovated home. The home is still owned by the family.

The Raboobee Automobile Collection

I was intrigued to find that the Raboobee boys had a flair for exotic cars at the time, some of which were one of a kind in the country at time.
Sheik Abdulla Raboobee with his Rolls Royce Phantom III.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom III was the final large pre-war Rolls-Royce. Introduced in 1936, it replaced the Phantom II and it was the only V12 Rolls-Royce until the 1998 introduction of the Silver Seraph.

The 727 V12 Phantom III chassis were constructed from 1936 to 1939, and many have survived, but I am told that this was the only one in the country at the time.

World's best car sold.

The Phantom III Rolls Royce which was brought out to South Africa by a British Industrialist, has been sold to an Indian businessman, Mr Sheik Hassan of 27 Florida Road, Durban. It is probably the old one of this type of Rolls Royce in the country.

I have often been asked about that colourful shirt in this photo of mine, with the misconception that it's an African themed shirt.
To the contrary it's a shirt celebrating NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) week in Australia.
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
